Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
Pure Beauty of the World
A great story about the emptiness of the human being and the beauty of the cruel world. To show all we try is struggle to find a meaning in our life, but may be there is no meaning is there, maybe the source of these vast ocean of beauty is no where.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, is one the greatest masterpieces in the art, and not only as a motion picture but as a fact book to show how human being is unstable. We are slave to our emotions, and emotions affecting everything in our behaviors, by them we can feel happiness, joy, sadness or suffering.
In a world without any of those feelings, the world has a different picture. We can see the world only by the beauty, smells, tastes, colors. How can we say which one is good? What is the measurement? or maybe goodness and badness are inventions of modern life?
Morality in Society
Morality as a subjective concept can not be defined in the area of social interactions, so by fading morality human nature can slowly show their wild side. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, is a person with a rare talent in recognizing odors. He is a symbolic character, he is a magnet to find the beauty. But he is lack of judgment to decide what is wrong or right.
One the interesting concept of the movie is the definition of Life. Based on the movie death happens when body scent fades. So an alive person should have scent and this scent affected by their behaviors.
So if we could preserve body scent can we say we are still alive?
Made of Perfumes
Perfumes can be a trigger for human feelings to show real face of many people behind their daily masks, behind thousands of orders, thoughts, acts and behaviors. Who we are? Are we just talkative animals to pretend some sort of civilized behavior or in the other side we are truly civilized but we have only a few flaws?
In the contrary perfume can be the symbol of real unstable human nature. It can be directly related to Love, but what is Love? Just a feeling? A good one or the bad one? Good one because we feel good only? Or bad because we feel sad when we do not have it? So who is a Lover? A person activated by a Perfume in his or her brain?
Artificial Love?
Love as a feeling is not something constructively meaningful, meanings are made by human struggle to change the real emptiness of real world. Meanings, give us a better feeling, and as you know feelings are not last forever. So one of the aspects of Perfumes in the movie can be creating Artificial Love in people. By love people can have strong attraction each other. At last we see that the world is a savage place for everything, even for love. In reality love is just a blind feeling looking for satisfaction but nobody really knows the boundaries for it. Maybe deeply in love people, are only in a temporary state of orgy.
